MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The two Tennessee legislators who wrote the bill that would clear the way for Shelby County Schools to gain special-district status are proposing a temporary truce with Memphis City Schools.
State Senator Mark Norris of Collierville and Representative Ron Lollar of Bartlett say they will not introduce the bill in January if Memphis City and Shelby County school board members agree to talk.
They also want all discussion of surrendering the MCS charter which would essentially force the two school districts to consolidate – to stop.
Shelby County School Board Vice Chairman and Legislative Liaison for the district, Mike Wissman joined FOX13 to talk about the legislation.
