NASHVILLE — State Sen. Mark Norris of Collierville remains Republican majority leader for the next two-year term of the state legislature, after his re-election by the Senate Republican Caucus today.

Norris had no opponent for reelection. The only contested position was for caucus chairman: Sen. Bill Ketron of Murfreesboro defeated Sen. Bo Watson of Chattanooga for the caucus chairmanship previously held by Diane Black, a Gallatin Republican elected to Congress last month.

Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey was also re-nominated for a third term as speaker, tantamount to election when the Senate convenes in January because the GOP has a 20-13 majority.

Senate Democrats meet next week to re-elect their officers. Sen. Jim Kyle of Memphis, Democratic minority leader, has no opposition for re-election as leader of Democrats in the Senate.
