Memphis, Tn – With the Governor joining in on the schools showdown, Fox 13 has put together a timeline of events leading up to the merger vote.
Wednesday, February 2nd – The education and finance committees in the State Senate will meet and Republicans will try to push Senator Mark Norris’ bill through. The bill would give Shelby County residents a vote in the merger referendum.
Thursday, February 3rd – The House Committees will take up the Norris measure.
Monday, February 7th – If the bill makes it through both chambers successfully, it will go to the full legislature for a vote when lawmakers reconvene.
Tuesday, February 15th – Due date set by Governor Haslam for the Memphis City and Shelby County Schools to submit a plan that shows how teachers rights will be protected in the merger.
Wednesday, February 16th – Early voting begins for the merger referendum.
Tuesday, March 8th – Vote for the merger referendum.
