The states of the Southern Legislative Conference (which I chaired in 2011) have been preparing for the opening of the expanded Panama Canal in 2015. Expansion means bigger ships and should mean more cargo at our ports. More economic development. More jobs. We visited the Canal, U.S. Embassy, and Chamber of Commerce to discuss trade between Panama and our states.

I returned to Nashville on Monday to welcome legislators from across the United States to the GOPAC Leadership Conference.
