NASHVILLE  Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey on Tuesday appointed the Senates three members of a House-Senate conference committee that will try to work out differences between the two chambers on a bill to allow referendums by the Memphis suburbs this year on creating their own school districts.

Ramsey appointed Sens. Mark Norris, R-Collierville, Dolores Gresham, R-Somerville, and Reginald Tate, D-Memphis. Theyll meet with three House members appointed Monday and draft a bill for submission to both the House and Senate on the issue before the legislature adjourns late this week.

The House is also scheduled to vote today on a separate bill, HB 3234, to lift the ban on new municipal school districts in Shelby County next Jan. 1, about eight months before it will be lifted under last years Norris-Todd act.
