Some Shelby County mayors and a state senator are among a boatful of local officials getting a briefing and river trip with the Corps of Engineers.

The Corps’ flagship, Motor Vessel Mississippi, departed Memphis on Wednesday afternoon with about 20 guests, including state Sen. Mark Norris of Collierville, Collierville Mayor Stan Joyner, Millington Mayor Richard Hodges and Germantown City Administrator Patrick Lawton.

The vessel is headed to Caruthersville for the first of four public meetings on flood control and other issues.

The meeting closest to Memphis will be 9 a.m. March 31 at Tunica River Park.
