Tennessee Right to Life Endorses Norris for State Senate
“One of the Legislature’s Most Capable and Committed Pro-Life Leaders”
(Nashville) The state’s oldest and largest pro-life organization has announced its official endorsement of legislator Mark Norris for the state Senate in district 32. Speaking on behalf of the organization, Tennessee Right to Life president Brian Harris joined with Leah Norris (no relation), TRL Field Rep for Southwest Tennessee, to make the announcement.
“West Tennessee should be commended for sending a leader of Senator Norris’ caliber to Nashville,” said Harris. “During this session Senator Norris’ demonstrated leadership was critical in helping to move forward meaningful pro-life protections and policies. His clear commitment to promoting respect for human life is matched by his compassion and concern for the women, children and families of this state,” Harris said.
Among the accomplishments named were Norris’ support for the establishment of the ‘Choose Life’ specialty plate which earmarks proceeds for non-profit pregnancy help centers, adoption agencies and social service providers throughout the state. “Senator Norris’ enthusiastic support and work helped to make this outreach program a meaningful response to women and families facing difficult or unexpected pregnancies,” said Leah Norris, TRL Field Representative for Southwest Tennessee.
In addition, Senator Norris helped to lead the floor effort to pass SJR 127, a resolution calling for a public vote on the restoration of stricken pro-life laws in Tennessee. “Senator Norris’ knowledge of law and concern for life make him one of the most important pro-life legislators at the Legislature,” said Harris.
“His work on SJR 127 was an important factor in our ability to successfully pass the resolution in the state Senate and to defeat pro-abortion gutting amendments,” according to Harris. “Mark Norris is a principled pro-life leader. He trusts the people of Tennessee and has voted to restore their rightful role to regulate the practice of abortion in our state.”
