Norris speaks to Bartlett Chamber

State Senator Mark Norris (R-Bartlett, Collierville) spoke to members of the Bartlett Area Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, June 13.

Norris expressed concern that although the state passed a $26 billion balanced budget, it's in a “$26 billion deficit in infrastructure.” He explained Tennessee is “seriously falling behind” in maintaining roads, bridges, airports and other transportation projects.

Norris criticized Governor Phil Bredesen's push to divert road money to fund Pre-K education. The senator pointed out 21.4¢ of (the cost of) every gallon of gas goes into the dedicated highway fund.” Norris said, “This is the nuts and bolts of good government. People are paying for this (infrastructure maintenance) and it ought to go into the right account.”
