Lobbyist registrations with the Tennessee Ethics Commission will be based on the calendar year instead of the current filing year that begins on Oct. 1, under a bill signed by Gov. Phil Bredesen on Monday.

The new filing deadlines will apply beginning in January 2008.

The measure sponsored by House Majority Leader Gary Odom, D-Nashville, also eliminates a requirement that lobbyists personally deliver a hard copy of the ethics manual to their employer. They will now be able to download the manual from the Ethics Commission's Web site.

Odom and Senate Republican Leader Mark Norris, of Collierville, were the main sponsors of the measure that passed unanimously in both chambers.
