In response to the column, "GOP win makes West Tennessee clout a thing of the past," I have to disagree.
West Tennessee's Sen. Mark Norris, R-Collierville, represents Dyer, Lauderdale, Tipton and the eastern parts of Shelby County. He is the second-ranking Republican senator in the state and is there to help us. As the Senate majority leader, Norris already has accomplished much for our district and for West Tennessee. He already has fought to preserve our gas tax revenues for transportation, supported property tax relief for senior citizens, sponsored medical liability reform legislation and toughened penalties for violent criminals. These acts will help all West Tennesseans.
West Tennessee has many Republican legislators who will continue to serve our area well and stick up for our interests while in Nashville. The recent change to a Republican majority in the Tennessee House and Senate also will result in new constitutional officers - with the appointees selected based more on talent than patronage.
The Democrats' failure at the state level may make their clout a thing of the past, but not West Tennessee's.
